The Chemistry Department at Buffalo State prepares students for diverse careers in chemistry, forensic science, and secondary education, while also providing a strong foundation for graduate study. Our programs emphasize hands-on learning, critical thinking, and close faculty mentorship to support student success.

Our faculty are active scholars and researchers, bringing their expertise into both undergraduate and graduate classrooms. This integration of teaching and research creates a dynamic learning environment where students can engage in meaningful scientific inquiry.

The department is equipped with modern instrumentation to support a wide range of research activities. In addition, we offer access to specialized facilities, including mechanical and woodworking shops and electronic repair resources, enabling innovative and interdisciplinary projects.

Our faculty and students explore a broad spectrum of topics across analytical, biochemical, inorganic, organic, medicinal plant, and physical chemistry, as well as forensic and environmental fields. Many projects are collaborative, involving partnerships with other departments, universities, and external laboratories.

Beyond the classroom, students can participate in a variety of enriching activities, including our weekly Thursday Seminar Series and the Chemistry/Forensic Science Club, which foster professional development, networking, and community engagement.
